Virgil Abloh, Passion Mapping
Abloh's Connected Practice
Virgil Abloh studied civil engineering at Wisconsin, earned a Master of Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology, and DJed house parties since his teens. He never designed a single building. He became creative director for Kanye West, founded Off-White in 2013, and was the first Black artistic director at Louis Vuitton in 2018.
Every skill fed the others. Engineering taught structure. Architecture introduced Mies van der Rohe's Crown Hall, where Abloh said: "The moment I stepped inside I lost my breath." He learned how spaces create feeling, how materials communicate. DJing taught sampling philosophy, remixing existing elements into something new.
He applied architectural thinking to fashion. Off-White's diagonal stripes came from modernism, a universal visual language working across cultures like international architecture. He used quotation marks as design elements, treating words like buildings.
Abloh's breakthrough was understanding disciplines don't exist in isolation. He compared himself to hip hop artists sampling music, art, and architecture. His philosophy: change designs by three percent. Each passion became an ingredient creating an entirely original creative voice.

Who Will You Become?
The 75th card is the only one without a creative master on it. It's a mirror. Every painter, writer, builder, and dreamer who came before you stood exactly where you are now, uncertain, reaching, becoming. They built their story. This is the closing reflection of the deck and an invitation: now it's time to build yours. What does your creative life look like when you're fully living it? -
James Baldwin, Communication as Creative Skill
James Baldwin said he wrote because he had to articulate what he could see and others wouldn't say. His clarity wasn't decoration, it was the work itself. From Notes of a Native Son to The Fire Next Time, every sentence is the result of someone treating communication as a creative discipline. This story is about why the ability to say what you actually mean is one of the most underrated creative skills you can develop. -
Bob Marley, Movement As Process
Bob Marley played football for hours before writing sessions, sometimes 8am to 3pm. His art director said it plainly: Bob played football to make the words come out. The movement wasn't separate from the music. It was the precondition. This story is about why your body is part of the creative process, and how using physical activity as a deliberate catalyst unlocks ideas your sitting-still mind won't deliver.
